In the event that the female in question "belonged to" one of the Beta males, then all the more reason that he should become aroused and get in there. As Barash and Lipton point out, "If 'your' woman may recently have been having sex with someone else, you would be well advised to have sex with Her too, and right away." (On a side note, some use this theory to explain why most men like pornography. Pictures and videos, or even audios, of seemingly sexual receptive women send a signal to the male brain that "a receptive female is nearby", which in turn results in arousal and erection to enable us to participate as our sperm competitive biology has evolved us to do over millions of years).

This would explain why men have the largest cocks of all the primates, but with relatively short staying power compared to a woman's sexual needs. So bigger may be better when it comes to getting pregnant, but does it necessarily mean that women prefer larger cocks for orgasms?

The answer to this is not simple since women have widely varying tastes, and it is difficult to make a sweeping generalization about penis size that applies to all women. Some women say size doesn't matter; some say it definitely does. To generalize that size doesn't matter, however, appears to ignore the two dimensions of size-length and thickness-as well as the extremes. Some Evolutionists believe that penis thickness has also been selected by women who like orgasms. Helen Fisher in "The Anatomy of Sex," conjectures,

"Human penises are relatively thick and this may have emerged in human evolution simply because Lucy and Her girlfriends liked thick penises. A fat phallus distends the muscles of the outer third of the vaginal canal and pulls on the hood of the clitoris, creating exciting friction, making orgasm easier to achieve."

Others say it is the increasing size of the vagina over time that selects for larger, thicker cocks. Again, according to Barash and Lipton,

"For obvious reasons, vagina and penis are closely matched in all species, not unlike a lock and key. Is there such a thing as too big? A woman's cervix at the back of the vagina is an immovable object and a large "cervix-banger" cock may hurt a woman rather than pleasure Her. There are also psychological factors at play. Many women find that bigger cocks are more visually stimulating and they often associate them with assertive, highly masculine, dominant "Alpha" males.
